How Far Back Can You Go?

It is possible to trace most families back to the first census of 1841 however earlier records can be found through parish and non parochial registers.

We would normally recommend researching back to the early 1800’s first, then the cost and feasibility of tracing back further can be discussed with us due to the lengthy research involved.

What Will I Find Out?

We will aim to discover when and where your ancestors were born, who they married, what their occupations were, where they lived and any children revealed by the censuses.

What If You Cannot Find My Family?

Before we start your research we will confirm there are sufficient records to proceed with your family tree.

It is only in exceptionally rare circumstances that documents may have been lost or destroyed preventing us from finding your ancestors.

Can I Do This Myself?

Yes, you can do this yourself. Genealogy is a wonderful pastime and if you have the time and desire, we would encourage you to do so.

Are My Details Secure?

Any information you give us about your family is kept completely confidential.

We do not pass on email addresses, phone numbers, names or any other data to any third party company or individual.

What Is A Gedcom File?

GEDCOM, an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunication, is a specification for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogy software.

GEDCOM was developed by The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as an aid to genealogical research.

What Will Be Included In The Final Presentation?

You will receive a report detailing your family history and containing all branches of your family tree. This report will be emailed to you in PDF format although you can also have it printed and posted for a small extra charge.

We will also include a report from your personal family historian suggesting hints for further research, either by yourself or through us.

We will email you a GEDCOM file which is easily imported into any family tree software and will allow you to browse through your tree and add more information at your leisure.

Can You Do Something With My Old Family Photographs?

Yes, photographs can be scanned into our computer and incorporated into your genealogy report. This is a great way of bringing your report to life and will preserve your photos for the future.

How Long Does The Research Take?

We can generally provide you with your initial starter presentation within 7 working days.

Further research times depend upon factors such as the need to order certificates, how common your surname is and what sort of detail you would like your report to include.

As a rule, research back to about 1850 is fairly quick and can (depending upon the detail required) usually be completed within 7 days. A full tree can take well over a year if you require very distant family members and full detail of each member.

Generally a standard sort of tree is likely to cost you in the region of £200-£500.

Pricing Structure

STEP 1:
If you already have a computerised family tree, please use your family tree software to export a GEDCOM file and send it to us (email us for free assistance).

If you don’t have a family tree or if it is not on a computer we recommend that you purchase our starter pack.

STEP 2 :
Once we have your basic tree in GEDCOM format we will indicate areas that look good to research, or you can ask us which details you want researching or indicate areas where you are stuck.
We charge :-
£10 per hour for a junior researcher.
£20 per hour for a senior researcher.
